How Does a Marriott Vacation Club Timeshare Work?

Timeshare owners that buy into Marriott Vacation Club can return every year to their favorite vacation spots. Owners can book a suite at any Marriott destination for a week of unparalleled adventure and luxury. Buyers receive a deeded real estate interest that lets them vacation annually or biennially (every other year).

Depending on the timeshare package, or the number of points they are allotted, guests can book a studio suite or a one-, two- or three-bedroom unit. Timeshares are purchased according to seasons, which are divided into levels of popularity.

Typically the seasons are labeled as Platinum, Platinum Plus, Gold, Silver, and Bronze. A “Platinum Plus” season would generally be reserved for major holidays such as Christmas, New Years, and Presidents week.

Some resorts are in higher demand than others. That is why it is so important to check the resort calendar for details. Owners may reserve their vacation up to twelve months ahead when utilizing their home resort. This is a great way to ensure availability.

Why should I buy a timeshare and how does it work?

A timeshare is an arrangement whereby property is owned by several joint owners. A timeshare acts as a prepaid vacation. As an owner, you have the right to use the property for a certain amount of time every year. This is advantageous to those who plan an annual vacation. A typical timeshare usage is broken up into a number of weeks. Others offer the flexibility of a floating week or timeshare points as a way of reserving vacations at a Marriott resort.

What are Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze Seasons?

This is Marriott’s way of ranking the demand of certain destinations and certain times of the year. Platinum is, of course, the most desirable season, while Gold are also in high demand, silver and bronze can be considered off season. Summertime at a ski resort would be considered a bronze season.

Depending on each resort’s calendar, the season will be labeled Platinum Plus, Platinum, Gold, Silver or Bronze. For example, a Marriott resort inArubaoffers platinum and gold seasons all year long, as this destination is in high demand during all 52 weeks of the year.
